Neil Davidson is a guitarist based in Glasgow.
His performing work ranges from collaborative compositions for classical players to numerous improvisational encounters with musicians from around the world. He plays regularly with the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra which he joined in 2003 and in the Aporias trio with Tatsuya Nakatani and Raymond MacDonald which toured the UK in June 2007. He has recently formed a trio with Aileen Campbell and Una MacGlone which comes on the heels of various other performance and research projects with Campbell. Throughout his performing career Neil has been heavily involved in organising concerts and music events running a series of monthly concerts in the Tchai Ovna tea rooms from 2003 until 2006 and curating a series of concerts at Streetlevel Photoworks in 2006 and 2007.In addition to these activities he established the CD-R label Deluge and Guitary in 2003 releasing recordings of local improvised musicincluding recordings by George Burt, Daniel Padden, Raymond MacDonald and the acclaimed trio Age of Wire and String featuring Peter Nicholson - cello and Jamie Allen - electronics and Neil Davidson - guitar. In 2005 he was one of the artists in residence at Villa Waldbertha in Bavaria courtesy of the Munich Kulturrefferat. In 2006 he completed a masters degree in composition at Glasgow university. His compositions have been played by the Scottish Ensemble, Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, the Edinburgh Quartet, saxophonist Raymond MacDonald and vocalist Aileen Campbell. Currently researching a phd at Glasgow University on improvisation, performance and philosophies of the event and body, he also teaches there. Festival appearances include Glasgow International 2006, Glasgow Jazz Festival '04, '05, '06, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival 2006, 21. Dresdner Tage der zeitgenössischen Musik 2006, Musica Nova at Glasgow University 2006, Freedom of the City in London 2007, Le Weekend (Stirling Scotland) 2007 and Instal 2008 in Glasgow. He has recently embarked on a collaboration with theatre director/performer Maria Gil resulting so far in the performance of a comission for the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon in January 2008.
